Kia expanded its electric vehicle offerings with the introduction of the Optima range, featuring a new plug-in hybrid model with a fully electric drive mode. The updated 2020 Optima model boasts a 10 kWh battery pack, providing more energy and range compared to the outgoing Optima’s hybrid system. The onboard charger offers a 3.3 kW hourly charge rate.

At EV chargers, we provide both level 1 (slower) and level 2 (faster) charging solutions (240 volts) that are well-suited to rapidly charge your Kia Optima. Our J1772 connectors are a perfect fit for your Kia Optima, and we offer a wide range of domestic plug types, including NEMA 14-50, NEMA 10-50, NEMA 6-50, NEMA 14-30, and more. Our EV Chargers are designed to be light, compact, and portable, and we often receive requests for replacements for damaged or broken Kia Optima EV Chargers.

Recommendation: Given the small battery size and the relatively slow charge acceptance rate (how quickly the battery can accept a charge), we recommend using a level 1 NEMA 5-15 Kia Optima EV Charger. This charger provides the fastest charge available and is also a cost-effective solution compared to level 2 EV chargers, which are unnecessary for this vehicle. Charging times are optimized for efficiency, and even from an empty battery (which is a rare occurrence in practice), the car will be fully charged in approximately 4 hours. Our EV chargers can be portable or affixed to the wall as a wallbox type J1772 EV charger.
